You, An Offering
You, An Offering
$300.00
A stark, black YOU—painted in block capital letters—is centered within the silver rectangle of traditional Chinese incense paper. The word is rendered in squid ink: a natural pigment expelled by a body when under threat. This animal instinct reframes the act of inscription from a message meant to be received to a gesture of disappearance or defense or merely a trace left in the water. Placed within the reflective foil of incense paper, which is traditionally used in ritual offerings to ancestors and spirits, the work becomes a quiet, charged invocation of loss, longing, and the limits of language. Declarative and withholding, YOU is both a target and an absence — a word addressed to someone who may no longer be there.
