Residue of You: Correspondence
Residue of You: Correspondence
This evocative mixed-media work transforms the title page of I'm Very into You: Correspondence 1995–1996 by Kathy Acker and MacKenzie Wark into a relic-like surface, encrusted with salt and adhered to ethereal Chinese incense paper. The alchemy of these materials invites reflection on the ephemerality of communication, the residue of intimacy, and the fragility of memory. Salt—an ancient preservative and symbol of both purification and corrosion—interacts with the printed page, blurring its legibility while preserving its emotional charge. The incense paper, often used in rituals of reverence and mourning, underpins the work with spiritual resonance, positioning the correspondence as both artifact and queer offering.
By merging literary ephemera with ritual materials, the piece bridges private narrative with collective ritual, asking: What remains after desire has burned out?
